Network cabling in San Diego

The most common cabling call we get in San Diego is not a new build. It is an office at UTC that inherited a rat's nest in the telecom closet, a lab in Sorrento Valley that needs 40 more drops for new benches, or a Kearny Mesa auto shop where the front counter drops out every time the lift compressor kicks on.

Network Cabling in San Diego

Network Cabling done right for San Diego businesses

Old Cat5, unlabeled patch panels and runs stapled to the joists are the norm in buildings that have turned over three or four tenants.

ITECH2 runs Cat6 and Cat6A structured cabling to TIA standards: proper pathways, plenum-rated cable where the ceiling calls for it, labeled and certified drops, and a patch panel you can actually read. We work in high-rises downtown with union-scheduled freight elevators, tilt-ups off Miramar Road with 24-foot ceilings, and clinics in Hillcrest where the work has to happen after hours. We also handle the MPOE and riser side, which in older San Diego buildings is often where the real problem lives.

We terminate to TIA-568-B, keep bends and bundles within spec, and separate low voltage from power. Plenum cable goes above drop ceilings that carry return air, riser cable between floors. Every run is documented so the next tech — ours or yours — can find it in a minute.

Local knowledge

Network Cabling across San Diego

Sorrento Mesa and Torrey Pines buildings tend to have plenum ceilings and shared risers, so we plan cable counts and pathways with the property manager before pulling. In East Village and the Gaslamp, brick walls and exposed ceilings mean surface raceway and careful routing. Rancho Bernardo campuses on West Bernardo Drive are large single-tenant floors with long horizontal runs that push the 295-foot limit, so we design closets to keep copper short. Kearny Mesa and Clairemont Mesa Boulevard light industrial is mostly open ceilings, which makes for clean, fast J-hook runs.

How it works

Survey, install, document

Step 1

Survey

We walk the space, count drops, trace pathways and check the closet, power and ceiling type. Free, and usually the same week.

Step 2

Install

Cable is pulled in bundles, dressed, terminated to TIA-568 standards and labeled at both ends.

Step 3

Certify

Every drop is tested with a certifier and you get the report, a drawing and photos of the closet.

Common questions

Network Cabling in San Diego — questions we get

Should I use Cat6 or Cat6A for my San Diego office?

Cat6 is fine for most offices and handles 10 gigabit over short runs. Cat6A is the better choice for labs in Sorrento Valley, buildings with Wi-Fi 6E or 7 access points, and anywhere you expect to be in the space ten years. The free site survey will tell you which one makes sense for your building.

Can you certify and label the existing cabling in my UTC office?

Yes. We test every existing drop, label both ends, document what passes and what fails, and replace only what needs replacing. That is usually far cheaper than a full re-pull, and it gives your IT provider a real map of the building for the first time.

Do you work after hours in downtown San Diego buildings?

Yes. Most towers along Broadway and B Street require after-hours freight elevator booking and a certificate of insurance. We schedule around your building's rules and keep the noise and ceiling tile work off your business hours.

How long does a network cabling install take?

A typical office of 20 to 60 drops is one to three days. Larger buildouts are scheduled in phases so your team keeps working. After the free site survey you get a firm schedule with the itemized quote.

Cat6 or Cat6A — which should I choose?

Cat6 handles 1 Gbps at 100 meters and 10 Gbps at short runs, and is the right choice for most offices. Cat6A carries 10 Gbps the full distance and supports higher-power PoE, so we recommend it for new builds, Wi-Fi 6E/7 access points and anything you plan to keep for 15 years.

Do you label and test every cable?

Yes. Every drop is labeled at the jack and the patch panel, certified with a tester, and you receive the test report. Untested cabling is where intermittent network problems come from, so we do not skip it.
